For sale is a vintage 1987 Rolex Submariner Date, reference 168000 – aka the “Triple Zero” – complete with the original box, papers, hangtags, booklets, and even the original purchase receipt from 1987. It also comes with a copy of the service records from 2008. This watch is 100% original inside and out, running perfectly, keeping accurate time, and functioning exactly as it should. This watch comes with a 1-year warranty through our shop.
It comes on a 93150 heavy-link bracelet with a flip-lock clasp and a K12 clasp code, dating to December 1986, which aligns with the watch’s original production period and matches the watch correctly. It has 593 end links and currently has 6 links with 2 removable screws on one side and 7 links with 2 removable screws on the other. The watch has a 9 million serial number.
The dial features a beautiful natural “creamy” patina throughout and also shows a cracking/frozen spider effect. This Rolex Submariner 168000 is a transitional version of Rolex’s iconic dive watch, produced for a very short time (about 9 months around 1987–1988) before the next-generation Submariner was introduced. Because of that short production run, it’s among the rarest Submariner references collectors actively seek. It also features 904L stainless steel, marking the transition into what Rolex now calls Oystersteel. Collectors value the 168000 both for its rarity and for its place in Rolex history – it truly bridges vintage Submariners and modern models.
Since the watch is 100% original and nearly 40 years old, it shows normal wear consistent with age. There are scratches, scuffs, and minor dents visible throughout the case and bracelet. The bezel also has some deep scratches. The original sapphire crystal has some surface scuffs and small chips. The bracelet also shows signs of wear and slightly sags. The case and bracelet have been polished before in it’s lifetime.
The watch measures approximately 40mm in diameter, 47.6mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width, and 12.8mm thick. The bracelet will comfortably fit up to an 8-inch wrist.
