For sale is a 1979 vintage Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph Thunderbird, model/reference number 16253. The watch comes exactly as shown. It does not have the original Rolex bracelet, nor does it come with the box or papers. We know the watch dates to 1979 based on the “6 million” serial number, which corresponds to that production year.
We serviced this watch in-house in 2026 as part of a routine preventative overhaul; it was not broken and did not require any repairs. During the service, we fully disassembled the movement, cleaned it, properly oiled it, reassembled it, and then timed and adjusted it to ensure it’s running as it should. It is currently running very well, keeping accurate time, and functioning exactly as it should with no issues. This watch comes with a 1-year warranty through our shop.
The case has noticeable signs of wear, including light scratches and scuffs. The dial and hands show signs of age and patina, and they also no longer glow. The acrylic crystal also has some surface scuffs. The 2-piece leather strap currently fitted on the watch is non-Rolex but is in like new condition.
Sizing: 36mm in diameter, 43.9mm from lug tip to lug tip, 20mm lug width, and 12.2mm case thickness.
