Description
For sale is a 1970 Rolex Datejust 36, reference 1601. The watch does not include the original box or papers – it comes exactly as pictured. It is fitted with an original Rolex two-tone Jubilee 62523H bracelet with a K8 clasp code, dating the bracelet to 1986. At some point, a previous owner upgraded the bracelet, replacing the original with the current authentic Rolex bracelet now on the watch. The watch is running well, keeping accurate time, and functioning as it should with no issues. For added peace of mind, it comes with a 1-year warranty through our shop.
The watch has a “2 million” serial number, which is how we know it dates the production year to 1970. The inside of the case back is stamped 111.69, indicating that the case back specifically, was manufactured in 1969 and is still original to the watch. Rolex historically produced case backs separately from the rest of the watch, which explains the stamp. The bracelet has 9 links with 2 removable screws on one side and 9 links with 1 removable screw on the other side, plus 1 end link on each side.
The watch has been professionally polished and cleaned. However, as a vintage pre-owned piece, light surface scratches, scuffs, and small dents on the case and bezel are still visible. The back of the case threads and the case back itself show signs of corrosion, but this does not affect the functionality of the watch. The acrylic crystal is a non-Rolex crystal and has some minor surface scuffs. The dial has a couple of very minor marks but remains in good overall condition for its age. The lume on the dial and hands glows but is not strong and fades quickly. The bracelet shows noticeable surface scratches, scuffs, signs of polishing, and has noticeable stretch (sag) – which is very common on vintage bracelets. Due to the watch’s age, it should not be exposed to water.
